Therapy for Teens

in Katy, Texas

Teens are dealing with a lot right now.

So are the parents trying to help them.

Teen Counseling in Katy, TX

You just want your teen to be okay.

Being a teenager has always been hard. But right now it feels like a different level entirely.

The pressure, the comparison, the social media, the anxiety, the identity questions. And often the feeling that nobody really gets it.

I create a space where teens feel safe enough to actually open up. Not to perform wellness. Not to say what they think adults want to hear. But to actually talk about what is going on.

And I work with parents too, because you are trying to figure this out right alongside them.

You do not have to keep watching from the outside wondering what to do.

Why Parents Come Here

What Brings Teens and Parents Here

Teens do not always come in because of one big thing. Sometimes it builds slowly. A shift in mood, a withdrawal from the family, a drop in grades, or an anxiety that just keeps getting louder.

Teen counseling in Katy, TX for teens and families navigating the hard seasons. Here are some of the most common starting points.

Anxiety and Stress

Anxious teens do not always look anxious. Sometimes they look irritable, avoidant, or just checked out.

We will work on what is underneath it and give your teen tools that actually help in real life, not just in the therapy room.

School Pressure and Performance

Academic pressure, college pressure, performance pressure. It starts earlier than it should and hits harder than most adults realize.

We will help your teen manage the stress and build a healthier relationship with achievement.

Identity and Self-Esteem

Who am I? Do I fit in? Am I enough? These are not small questions, and teens are carrying them in a really loud world.

We will work through the pressure and help them build a sense of self that does not depend on everyone else's approval.

Social Media and Comparison

The highlight reel never stops. Teens are constantly measuring themselves against a version of life that is not even real.

We will help them develop a stronger internal compass so the noise has less power.

Conflict and Communication

Sometimes the tension at home is the main thing getting in the way. Everyone wants to connect but no one knows how to get there.

I work with teens and families together when it helps, and separately when that is what is needed. The goal is always connection, not just compliance.

Support for Parents

You do not have to figure this out alone either. Sometimes parents need their own space to process what is happening and how to stay connected without pushing their teen further away.

That is something I can help with too.

A note for teens reading this.

You do not have to be in crisis to come here. You do not have to have the right words or know exactly what is wrong.

You just have to be willing to show up. Charlie the therapy dog will probably be there too. The rest we figure out together.

Is This For You?

You feel like other kids have it worse. Maybe your teen should just be able to push through it.

Most parents who come here have thought the exact same thing. Your teen does not have to be in a full crisis for their struggles to be worth taking seriously.

Teen counseling might be right if your teen...

  • Has pulled away from the family or friends they used to be close to
  • Seems more anxious, irritable, or shut down than usual
  • Is struggling with school in a way that does not match their ability
  • Says things like "nobody gets it" or "what is the point"
  • Is dealing with friendship drama, social pressure, or feeling left out
  • Has been through something hard and has not really processed it
  • Just seems off and you cannot quite put your finger on why

You do not need to wait until things fall apart

A lot of parents come in saying they are not sure it is bad enough for therapy. But the teens who benefit most are often the ones whose parents caught something early, before the walls got too high.

If your gut is telling you something is off, that is worth paying attention to. You know your kid.

Not sure if this is the right fit? That is exactly what the free consultation is for. No pressure. No commitment. Just a conversation.

The Process

What to Expect in Teen Counseling in Katy, TX

Getting a teenager into therapy can feel like its own challenge. Here is a clear, honest look at how the process works, and why it tends to go better than most parents expect.

I work with teens across the Houston area through virtual sessions, in addition to in-person counseling in Katy.

1

Getting Started

A Free 20 Minute Consultation

Parents typically reach out first. This call is a chance to share what is going on, ask questions, and figure out whether working together makes sense. No commitment required and no intake paperwork yet. Just a real conversation.

2

Session 1

Meeting Your Teen Where They Are

The first session is low pressure. I am not trying to get your teen to open up about everything right away. I am trying to earn their trust. We talk about what feels comfortable, I listen, and we start building a relationship that makes the real work possible.

3

Early Sessions

Understanding What Is Actually Going On

What looks like defiance or apathy is often anxiety, shame, or overwhelm in disguise. Over the early sessions we slow things down and start to understand what is really driving the behavior. This is where the picture starts to come into focus for everyone.

4

The Work

Building Skills That Actually Stick

Using approaches like CBT, IFS, and EMDR when appropriate, we work on the patterns keeping your teen stuck. Real tools for managing anxiety, communicating better, and feeling more grounded in who they are. Sessions are 50 minutes, typically weekly or every other week.

5

Progress and Beyond

When Parents Notice the Shift

Most parents start noticing something different within the first several sessions. Not a perfect teen, but a slightly more open one. A little less reactive. A little more willing to talk. Therapy is not forever. The goal is to give your teen tools that work long after our sessions end.

Most parents feel relief just from making the first call. The hardest part is deciding to reach out.

Why This Is Different

10 Years as a School Counselor. Now in Private Practice.

Before opening Bramblewood, I spent a decade as a school counselor working alongside teenagers every day. I know how they think, how they talk, and more importantly, how they do not talk when something is wrong.

That background changes the way I work with teens in therapy. I am not trying to get your teen to perform insight in a session. I am trying to actually connect with them and create a space where they feel safe enough to be honest.

Meet Angie

Teens Actually Talk in Sessions

Because I have spent years earning trust with teenagers, most teens open up faster than their parents expect.

Parents Stay in the Loop

I keep parents informed and involved in a way that supports the therapeutic relationship rather than undermining it.

School and Life Context Matters

I understand the academic and social pressures teens face because I have watched them up close for years.

Evidence Based and Practical

CBT, IFS, and EMDR are used as tools, not scripts. What works for your teen is what we use.

Common Questions

Things Parents and Teens Usually Wonder Before Starting

Honest answers to what most families want to know before booking their first session.

My teen says they do not want to go to therapy. Now what?+
That is one of the most common things parents say. Most teens who end up in my office said the same thing before they came. The first session is low stakes on purpose. I am not expecting them to pour their heart out right away. I just need them to show up once. From there, most teens find it is nothing like what they expected.
Will you tell me what my teen says in sessions?+
Confidentiality is what makes therapy work for teens. If your teen knows everything goes back to you, they will not say anything real. That said, I always keep parents informed about general progress and I will always share anything that involves safety. We talk through how that balance works at the start so everyone is on the same page.
Do you work with parents too or just the teen?+
Both. I check in with parents regularly and bring them into sessions when it makes sense. Some parents also benefit from their own space to process what is happening at home and how to respond. You do not have to figure this out alone either.
How long does teen therapy usually take?+
It depends on what your teen is working through and how long it has been building. Some teens make significant progress in 8 to 12 sessions. Others work longer on deeper patterns. We talk through what makes sense at the start and check in as we go. Therapy is not meant to be forever.
Do you offer virtual teen counseling in Texas?+
Yes. Virtual sessions are available throughout Texas, whether your family is in Katy, Houston, Dallas, or anywhere in between. In-person sessions are at the Katy office, and Charlie the therapy dog is often around, which tends to be a hit with teens.
What does a session actually look like for a teen?+
Sessions are 50 minutes. It is a conversation, not a lecture. I do not sit there taking notes while your teen stares at the wall. We talk, sometimes about what is hard and sometimes about what is going well. Charlie is usually around for in-person sessions, and teens almost always gravitate toward him, which naturally takes some of the pressure off the room. Most teens leave their first session surprised by how normal it felt.

My daughter did not want to go at first. After the first session, she was open to continuing and giving therapy a try. She trusts Angie and we saw positive changes while she was working with her.
