Therapeutic Approaches | Bramblewood Counseling Katy TX

Therapy is not one size fits all.

Different people need different things. That is why I draw from a range of evidence based approaches rather than working from a single method.

Some people need to understand their thought patterns. Some need to process something that happened. Some need tools for the present moment. Most need a combination.

What we use in your sessions will depend on you: your history, your goals, and what is actually getting in the way.

The Approaches

What We May Use in Your Sessions

Each of these approaches is evidence based, meaning they have been studied and shown to help. Here is a plain language look at what each one is and how it works.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

A proven approach for identifying and changing negative thought patterns, helping you manage anxiety, depression, and stress by reshaping your thinking and behaviors.

EMDR Therapy

Helps individuals process and heal from traumatic memories by using guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to reduce emotional distress and promote adaptive coping.

Gottman Method

Focuses on improving communication, rebuilding trust, and resolving conflict in relationships with proven strategies to strengthen emotional connections and create lasting change.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Supports individuals in understanding and harmonizing their inner parts, fostering self-compassion, healing emotional wounds, and promoting overall psychological well-being.

Person-Centered Therapy

Creates a nonjudgmental, empathetic space to explore your thoughts and feelings, empowering you to build self-awareness, discover your path to growth, and achieve healing.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

A goal oriented, strengths based approach that focuses on finding solutions and building on your existing strengths to help you move forward and overcome challenges quickly.

These approaches do not work in isolation.

I use a mix of approaches so we are not just talking about things. We are actually working through what is keeping you stuck.

We look at your thoughts, your past, and what is happening in your body so real change can happen.

Common Questions

Things People Usually Wonder About the Approach

Honest answers before your first session.

Do I have a say in what approach we use?+
Always. Therapy works best when it feels right to you. We will talk through what we are using and why, and you can always tell me if something does not feel like a fit. This is collaborative.
What is EMDR and does it actually work?+
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It uses guided bilateral stimulation, usually eye movements, to help your brain process memories that got stuck. It can sound strange, but it is one of the most well researched trauma treatments available. Many people find it works when talk therapy alone has not.
Do we just talk, or do we actually do something in sessions?+
Both. Talking is part of it, but the approaches I use are designed to create actual change, not just insight. Depending on what we are working on, a session might involve identifying thought patterns, processing a memory, practicing a new skill, or working through something in the moment. The goal is always to leave with something useful, not just a good conversation.
What if I have tried therapy before and it did not help?+
That is really common, and it is worth talking about. Sometimes the approach was not the right fit. Sometimes the timing was not right. Sometimes it was the relationship with the therapist. If something has not worked before, I want to know. It helps me understand what will actually be useful for you this time.
